If you love AK-pattern firearms but are looking for something a little more compact, built like a tank, and still packs the punch of the traditional AK-47 round, 7.62×39, the Arsenal SAM7K deserves a serious look. Styled after the legendary AKS-74U Krinkov, this Bulgarian pistol delivers rifle like performance in a handgun sized package. I like to call it “Krink Heavy”.
Unlike many imported AK pistols that rely on stamped receivers, the SAM7K stands out as one of the highest-quality options on the market, thanks to its exceptional craftsmanship and durability.
Built Like No Other: The Forged & Milled Receiver
What truly sets the SAM7K apart is its receiver. While some “milled” AK receivers are simply machined from solid bar stock, Arsenal takes a far more demanding route: The receiver blank is created using a hot-die hammer forging process with a massive 5-ton hammer.

This technique produces stronger, finer-grained steel with fewer internal voids or weaknesses caused by uneven cooling.
Each forged blank then undergoes over 5.5 hours of precision milling before assembly.
Arsenal applies the same forging process to the bolt and bolt carrier! The result? A pistol that feels incredibly smooth, runs reliably even under harsh conditions, and holds up exceptionally well when owners later convert it into a short-barreled rifle (SBR).
The SAM7K Barrel is a true work of craftsmanship. Measuring in at 8.5 inches the barrel is cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel made with Steyr technology for enhanced longevity and accuracy.
The front sight gas block combo is threaded to a standard 24×1.5mm RH thread, which is perfect for muzzle brakes, flash hiders, or suppressors.
The handguards and pistol grip are made using high quality polymer with steel inserts in all of the right places for extra durability. The lower handguard features a heat shield that keeps your hands nice and cool when you’re at the range.
The rear sight is an adjustable flip up sight offering the shooter the choice between a peep sight or a standard AK style open iron sight with options for optics via the built-in scope rail on many variants. Check out the Arsenal SM-22 scope mount which is low profile and designed specifically for the SAM7K.
Uses and Specs
The overall length of the SAM7K is just shy of 20 inches, and the pistol weighs in at 5.8 lbs.
Pistol hunting -The cartridge retains impressive energy even from an 8.5-inch barrel, making it effective for medium game at closer ranges.
Home defense or truck gun — Compact size with serious stopping power.

Suppressor host — Many owners run it suppressed for a dramatically more pleasant shooting experience. If you’re looking to have your unit suppressed, as always, check with a gunsmith to ensure that the threading is concentric to the bore. Arsenal also offers an ASR (Arsenal Suppressor Ready) model which guarantees concentricity.
Because of its robust construction and the addition of a picatinny rail located at the back of the receiver, the SAM7K is a favorite platform for SBR conversions. Add a stabilizing brace (where legal), a folding stock, or a telescoping stock, and you get a highly maneuverable package that still delivers devastating performance up close. Just make sure to fill out your ATF paperwork force and get approval prior to doing so.
How It Compares
Compared to other options like the Romanian Draco, Mini Draco or Zastava ZPAP92, the SAM7K can cost slightly more. However, you’re paying for premium Bulgarian manufacturing, a true forged-and-milled receiver, and better long-term durability. Many owners say smoother action and tighter tolerances make the extra investment worthwhile.
The milled receiver makes the investment worth it, in my opinion.
In the firearms world, the term ‘Mil-Spec’ is thrown around far too casually. But with Arsenal, it means something. These firearms are genuinely built to true military specifications, a level of authenticity and quality you simply won’t find in most other AKs.
Final Thoughts
The Arsenal SAM7K proves that even in the crowded world of AKs, quality still stands out. It combines old-school Kalashnikov toughness with modern Bulgarian precision engineering. Whether you’re a collector who appreciates top tier AKs, a suppressor enthusiast, or someone who just wants a compact 7.62×39 blaster that will outlast most others, the SAM7K delivers.
If you’re in the market for a premium AK pistol that feels more like a precision instrument than a budget blaster, this “Krink Heavy” is hard to beat.
