Armed Good Guys: Comedian Robbed at Gunpoint Changes Stance on Guns

February 1, 2019 by David Dolbee 9 Comments

News stories of civilian self-defense seldom receive adequate media coverage. After all, armed good guys stopping violent felons does not make headlines like the lives of innocents being taken. Bias and agendas play their part, but the media does not cover an event that did not happen, such as a case where a good guy stopped a violent event before it resulted in the loss of innocent life. However, these are exactly the type of stories we need to highlight to educate non gun owners before they head to the voting booth.

DC Political Comedian Robbed at Gunpoint Changes Stance on Guns

“That level of fear and that level of helplessness that you feel, it doesn’t compare to anything else I’ve felt in my life,” Tim Young said.

Tim Young was heading to one of D.C.’s newest hotspots—The Wharf—when his life changed.

He was walking down a well-lit section of M Street at about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday when two men approached him—one of them had a gun.

“Terrified. You know, when I talk to people about this… you’re scared. There’s no man card involved. I was defenseless,” explained Young, who’s a political comedian and host of ‘No Things Considered’ at the D.C. Examiner. The men ran off with his cell phone.

Young said six to seven people witnessed the attack, but no one tried to help him while it was going on. Two people called 911 after it was over and the “rest of the folks walked off.”

“They just stood by and watched as I was yelling for help. ‘Help, I’m being robbed!’ They stood by and watched,” recalled Young.

Now, he said he absolutely plans to apply for a concealed carry permit in D.C., but it won’t be easy. The District is one of the toughest places in the country to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

“When you’re in an instance where there’s a gun is pointed at you and your life is being threatened for your property and no one’s going to help—and now I know that no one’s going to help—I want to feel more secure. I want to feel safe, and I have something to defend myself with,” he said.

When asked how the situation would have went differently if he had a gun, Young told Bruce Johnson on ‘Off Script’ that he probably would have pulled it out to defend himself.

He addressed people who are against conceal carry permits by saying they’ve probably never been in his position.

“I think a lot of those people who are opposed to having a concealed carry permit and being able to own a weapon have never had one pointed directly at them when they have nothing on them,” Young said.

He plans to get trained and go through all the requirements necessary so he can carry a gun outside his home.

“That level of fear and that level of helplessness that you feel, it doesn’t compare to anything else I’ve felt in my life.”

Customer Shoots, Kills Armed Robber at Family Dollar

Dekalb County, Georgia — You never know when you’ll need a firearm to fight off a criminal, gangster, or thug. That’s what happened today in Lithonia, Dekalb County, Georgia, east of Atlanta, where an armed customer at Family Dollar shot and killed an armed robber. This area of Georgia is the back yard of Georgia Democrat Socialist Stacey Abrams, who vowed to ban, confiscate, and destroy firearms from Georgians.

A customer shot and killed an armed robber inside a DeKalb County dollar store Tuesday morning, police said.

Here’s the report from the AJC:

A customer shot and killed an armed robber inside a DeKalb County dollar store Tuesday morning, police said.

DeKalb County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer said police responded to the shooting at the Family Dollar in the 7000 block of Covington Highway near Lithonia.

Investigators learned that a man had walked into the store and pulled a gun on two employees, Channel 2 Action News reported.

While an employee was handing over money, the customer shot the man, killing him.

And from Channel 2 Action News:

Channel 2’s Tom Regan learned from police that a man walked into the store on 7042 Covington Highway this morning and pulled a gun on two employees. While the suspect was getting money from an employee, a customer shot the man, police said.

The customer who shot and killed the gunman will not be charged, police said.

Police told Regan the clerk was badly shaken by what happened but appreciative to the customer who put a stop to the armed robbery by taking out the threat.

“She’s upset. She’s dealing with corporate right now… but she’s fine,” an official told us.

    Tim, good for you.

Just a couple of things. You WILL NOT be an expert after you get your license. It takes DECADES of training to become an expert. I suggest you get some EXPERT training at Thunder Ranch or Gunsite Academy, SIG Academy, or some other first rate training institution. BTW the aforementioned institutions WILL NOT accept you for training UNTIL you have your CCL and have gone through THAT training.

This guy doing the interview knew nothing about firearms OR how to use them in a self defense/tactical situation. Just another Socialist moron talking head doing an interview. BETTER GO AHEAD AND TALK TO SOME OF YOUR CONSERVATIVE FRIENDS, if you have any, for some solid advice.

It’s sad that it takes becoming a victim to wake people up. Is that what it will take for politicians to understand the danger of open borders and the influx of illegal aliens? Maybe if these boneheaded politicians suffered a loss at the hands of an illegal they would change their minds. But as long as the politicians and their families live in their own bubbles they’ll never understand.

I carry, I believe in and support the Second amendment.
The story is compelling and incomplete in its details.
As a CCP citizen, I wonder if the individual who shot the armed robber could have succeeded in just disarming the thief without shooting and taking a life. I admit I was not there, and the circumstances are not well described. The shooters future civil legal situation and possible mental health are uncertain and at risk.
This, storey could be used against those of us who wish to protect ourselves and our families, by the liberal/socialist media.

Really Michael?? Just how would you expect the good guy to disarm an armed robber? Expect that the bad guy would instantly atone for his criminal lifestyle, drop his gun and wait for cops to arrive? This is the kind of advise that could get you killed, all due to your humanitarian inclinations!

As a retired Law Enforcement Officer, and combat veteran, I suggest the comedian get as much quality training as possible. If he can connect with a Law Enforcement Academy that would be good, if not NRA offers some good courses, but do not be afraid to train too much. Contact local Law Enforcement for what they think would be a good training to attend. Common sense is a must, we do not need some frightened un-trained individual shooting away. It is hard to maintain sight picture on target when you are scared, and when you weapon is drawn, and put on a live target, especially one that can shoot back, and if you are not scared at least a little, you are a fool, or you would prefer to die. Training will build confidence, and confidence is a must.

Typical hypocritical stool chute of a democraticically leaning know nothing douche. Too bad he didn’t get shot in the face. Sooooo sick of Americans with their inability to look into the future nor able to put themselves in hypothetical situations or prepare for the possibility of something bad happening. None can put themselves in others shoes to see how it is or feels unless they are forced into a similar situation. Seems most think the government is going to take care of everything. Like they had forgotten about Katrina and the people who died waiting for help or some that where murdered by some police. If the SHTF ever and a nonfirearm owner comes to me to ask for help, I’m just going to steel what ever they have to teach them the lesson they need to learn. They are the problem and need to be treated as such, same as those cowards who where afraid and registered their scary guns in my state. They are the problem giving a illegal law validation and by their actions anti freedom and anti American. Grow a set!!!!Bitches.

I agree with many of the others who have commented, just having a concealed weapon will not make you any safer if you are not trained. Get training and go to the range as often as possible. I personally try to get to the range at least once a week. One other part of training that is important and people seldom talk about is situational awareness. Knowing what is happening around you can help you avoid confrontation or at least help you react before that person grabs you from behind. I would be willing to bet this guy had his nose in his cell phone and was completely unaware of his surroundings.

On 3-18-14 I arrived home from an appointment and came upon a bad guy, a professional, life-long criminal, who had smashed his way into our home to rob us. He came at me, tried to take my handgun, and after 5 shots fired, and 4 hits, he died in our driveway. My story was carried in the USCCA January ’17 magazine.
