Armed Good Guys: Family First

February 17, 2019 by David Dolbee 1 Comment

News stories of civilian self-defense seldom receive adequate media coverage. After all, armed good guys stopping violent felons does not make headlines like the lives of innocents being taken. Bias and agendas play their part, but the media does not cover an event that did not happen, such as a case where a good guy stopped a violent event before it resulted in the loss of innocent life. However, these are exactly the type of stories we need to highlight to educate non gun owners before they head to the voting booth.

Point a Gun at Mom, Get Shot Dead by Son

Florida – News 6 reported that 20-year-old Alvin Smalls and 18-year-old Amir Rashad Lynn allegedly broke into the home at a time when the mother’s son was in the house asleep. The son awoke to strange sounds, only to discover the suspects allegedly had his mother at gunpoint.

The son shot the suspects. Smalls died in the home and Lynn fled, only to die later at a hospital.

WESH 2 reported that the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office believed the shooting was an issue of self-defense. Brevard County Sheriff’s spokesman Tod Goodyear said, “Right now it appears it is a case of them defending themselves in the home.”

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Husband Intervenes, Chases Bad Guy, Gets in Two Fights, and Shoots

A would-be thief was shot Monday night after the victim’s husband stopped the crime in progress, chased the man down, and opened fire, police said.

Police say Jordan Ponce was involved in Monday night’s attempted robbery.

The suspect, Jordan Ponce, 19, approached a 25-year-old woman walking home Monday night in Antioch about 9:30 p.m., Metro Nashville Police said in a press release. He allegedly ran up behind her and grabbed at her purse. But when she wouldn’t let go, the woman told police, he bashed her head against the building wall. That’s when her 29-year-old husband reportedly heard her screams and raced to help.

Authorities said Ponce fled the scene but was chased by the husband, who jumped over a fence and landed on top of the suspect. The pair struggled. Still, the relentless husband remained on his trail and a second fight ensued. The suspect hit the husband in the head, prompting him to take out his gun and fire.

Police say the injured suspect, identified as Ponce, got into a silver car and fled the scene. Authorities later discovered that the vehicle he left in was stolen 90 minutes before the attempted robbery. It was located early Tuesday.

A department spokesperson told Fox News on Tuesday that Ponce is in the hospital and being treated for wounds to his stomach and hands.

The department spokesperson also said that while the investigation is ongoing, charges against Ponce are expected.

She said she was not aware of any pending charges against the husband who pursued the suspect.
