News stories of civilian self-defense seldom receive adequate media coverage. After all, armed good guys stopping violent felons does not make headlines like the lives of innocents being taken. Bias and agendas play their part, but the media does not cover an event that did not happen, such as a case where a good guy stopped a violent event before it it resulted in the loss of innocent life. However, these are exactly the type of stories we need to highlight to educate non gun owners before they head to the voting booth.
KPD: Suspected burglar who died after homeowner shot him during break-in identified
KNOXVILLE — A suspected burglar has died after a homeowner allegedly shot him when he was breaking into a home on Lamp Drive early Thursday morning.
A preliminary investigation into the attempted burglary and shooting shows a male started beating on the door and trying to get into the home around 1:22 a.m. When he couldn’t get in, he tried to break into a window while armed with a handgun, according to KPD.
One of the homeowners reportedly fired his weapon and hit the suspect as he was entering the home.
Investigators identified the man as 24-year-old Christopher Austin Desmarais from Knoxville. At the time, officers said he have any identification on him — so his identity was being determined during an autopsy Thursday afternoon.
Both homeowners were transported to the Safety Building where they were interviewed by investigators and then released.
The investigation is ongoing.
Happy Halloween — Now You’re Going to Die
NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) – New Haven police confirmed to News 8 that one person is dead, two others stabbed after an altercation Tuesday night.
Officials say a man was walking from Whalley Avenue towards Goffe Street when he was approached by a black male.
The suspect said “Happy Halloween” and stabbed the victim. The victim’s cousin was waiting for him in a car when he noticed the commotion. When the cousin exited the car and approached the suspect, he also was stabbed by the person. The cousin pulled out his pistol, which he lawfully owns, and shot the suspect in the chest. Police are calling the shooting “self-defense.”
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials say the two stabbing victims have been transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
This is simply one of those nightmare stories that remind us why we carry—for our self defense and the protection of our loved ones or those around us.
