News stories of civilian self-defense seldom receive adequate media coverage. After all, armed good guys stopping violent felons does not make headlines like the lives of innocents being taken. Bias and agendas play their part, but the media does not cover an event that did not happen, such as a case where a good guy stopped a violent event before it resulted in the loss of innocent life. However, these are exactly the type of stories we need to highlight to educate non gun owners before they head to the voting booth.
North Carolina: Homeowner Shoots, Kills Home Invader in Fayetteville
Fayetteville, N.C. — Police say that two men broke into a home in the 400 block of Lands End Road on Thursday, September 19, 2019.
One of the two men was killed by the homeowner during the course of the home invasion. Authorities said that at least one of the two men was armed with a gun of his own.
The call came a little before 7 p.m. Police say that the family was home when the two men broke in the front door.
The homeowner heard the noise and grabbed a gun of his own. He exchanged gunfire with one Jenson Rojas-Marrero, 20. Rojas-Marrero lived on the 1300 block of Seventy First School Road. The two men shot at each other, and the home invader was hit. Rojas-Marrero was pronounced dead on the scene when the medical advisor arrived.
Meanwhile, the other invader ran outside and escaped. Police are still searching for him.
A woman inside the house, presumably the wife of the homeowner, was shot in the leg and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She said she was driving into the community when she saw the police and ambulance. “Saw the two ambulances pull in and a whole lot of police cars and didn’t know what was going on,” she said. The woman said she plans to increase her mother’s home security system, and install security cameras. “We’re definitely going to have more security, that’s for sure,” she said. “And we’ll look at some new options.”
Hopefully those new options include training her mother in how to use a gun for self-defense. This is a case where armed good guys did the right thing, and that thug will be unable to threaten or rob any other people.
One Dead After Canton OH Resident Shoots Home Invader
ABC News 5 Cleveland reported 07-22-19 in Canton, Ohio an early-morning home invasion in the 2600 block of Second Street NW. Police Captain Dave Davis reported the homeowners were awakened by two intruders hitting them with guns. One had a rifle and the other a handgun.
At some point during the attack, the robbers left the bedroom and went downstairs in search of money. By the time they headed back up the stairway, the homeowner had retrieved his own pistol.
One of the individuals discharged three rounds from his rifle before being shot and killed by the homeowner according to court records.
The homeowner told the officers someone had broken into his house a week before. Detectives did not yet know whether the two incidents are related.
Records show the third accomplice, a 28-year-old female returned to the area, picked up her 24-year-old, injured accomplice and drove him to Aultman Hospital. She was arrested at the hospital.
That 28-year-old was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m.
Aultman Police say the female repeatedly lied about her involvement as the get-a-way driver, so she was charged with obstructing justice and complicity to aggravated burglary.
Canton City Prosecutor Jason Reese said even though the woman didn’t pull the trigger, Ohio law allows her to be charged with murder because someone died during the commission of another felony crime, in this case, the burglary.
Stark County court records show the deceased invader had a long criminal history. Police are reviewing private surveillance video from homes in the area.
Anyone with information as to the third robber’s whereabouts are asked call detectives at 330-489-3144
