The first gun I ever bought was a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in .308 win. Ever since that day, I have been in love with that round. It is my favorite rifle cartridge. Can it do everything? God no. It can, however, do most things I want to do. With that said, when I was looking at building my AR, I was originally looking to make an AR-10. I learned quickly that it was a lot more expensive to build that. Due to costs, I built an AR-15 instead. I never did lose my itch for wanting an AR-10 though.
Not that long ago I was fortunate enough to come across the LF308 Battle Rifle in OD green. I was actually happy to find it in that color because I would have had it cerekoted to that color eventually. Was it the AR-10 of my dreams? Of course not. I did like the way it looked and, more importantly, the price tag. I spent my money and now I finally have an AR-10. The rifle came in a hard case with 1 magazine and no sights. It has an 18” barrel with a 1 in 10 twist. The case the rifle came with isn’t big enough to hold the rifle with the optic I put on it, but I can easily use the case for some other guns I own. Overall, I am happy with what it came with.
After I got the rifle home I put an Arken SH-4 4-16×50 scope on it. I got that scope for another rifle but, due to its size, I could never mount it where it was comfortable for me. That is a major perk to this rifle. I could mount an optic as close or as far away as I want. I was fortunate and able to zero the rifle at 25 yards in 3 shots. After a quick zero I started shooting at a metal disc blade I turned into a target at 100 yards. After the first shot I realized that one of my hooks broke while shooting another rifle. This limited me to just shooting at the left side of the target. The reason behind that is I turned the left of the target slightly away. I precaution I take incase what happened happens. Out of 17 rounds I only missed once.
Satisfied with the accuracy, I decided to try shooting smaller targets. I set up a 1-gallon milk jug filled with non-potable water to see if I could hit that. I was shooting slightly high from point of aim, but on target. Because I was shooting high, I shot it 3 times. I thought I missed the first 2 shots and made slight adjustments to where I was aiming. After being successful with that I moved on to a smaller target. I decided to shoot a playing card. I built a stand for it and set it up at 100 yards. After hitting the card, I proceeded to search for it for 4 minutes.
I never shot groups with the rifle. That is something I usually only do when zeroing, checking zero, testing loads, or seeing if I can blame the rifle for missing a target. It’s usually my fault. After having put the rifle through its paces, I was happy with its performance. I think, for the money, you will have a hard time getting a more accurate AR-10 style rifle. With some more time behind it, I will probably turn this into my preferred long-range shooter.
