Armed Good Guys — Two Carjackers, One Armed Citizen

January 6, 2020 by David Dolbee 1 Comment

News stories of civilian self-defense seldom receive adequate media coverage. After all, armed good guys stopping violent felons does not make headlines like the lives of innocents being taken. Bias and agendas play their part, but the media does not cover an event that did not happen, such as a case where a good guy stopped a violent event before it resulted in the loss of innocent life. However, these are exactly the type of stories we need to highlight to educate non gun owners before they head to the voting booth.

Two Chicago Carjackers Stopped By One Armed Citizen

Or as CBS2 in Chicago put it, a carjacking on the city’s northwest side was stopped by “a concealed carry “gunman.”

A 25-year-old woman walking from her house to her car on her own street. There are three sets of eyes were on her. Two belonging to the carjackers and one to a friend who jumped in and started firing.

Around 7:15 Monday morning in Jefferson Park, the 25-year-old woman behind the wheel of a black Nissan Rogue, with ride share stickers on it, is carjacked by two people on the 4800 block of North Moody.

In the moments that followed, a 26-year-old man, a police radio called him her husband, approaches the scene. With a valid concealed carry license, he begins to fire on the SUV.

Neither of the carjackers were hit, but the lawful gun owner was able to hold one of the suspected carjackers until police arrived a few minutes later. Officers arrested a second suspect a few hours later.

According to Fox32 in Chicago, the concealed carry holder isn’t facing any charges in connection with the incident.

Meanwhile, police in Chicago say the number of homicides in the city has dropped dramatically in 2019 compared to recent years, from a high of almost 800 murders in 2016 to 491 in 2019. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that arrests have been made in less than a quarter of the city’s murders, unfortunately.

“This is a milestone for us, it’s not success though,” CPD spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Monday.

So far, arrests have been made in 101 murder cases that originated in 2019, according to department records.

The Harrison District on the West Side — historically one of the most violent parts of the city — again had the most murders of the CPD’s 22 districts in 2019, with 71 as of Monday. The Lincoln District on the North Side was the only district in the city to not see a single murder all year.

I don’t think anybody would call more than a murder a day a “success” story, but at least the numbers are trending in the right direction.

It’s also important to note that the homicide totals are dropping even as the number of Chicago residents legally carrying firearms for self-defense has grown to around 40,000. According to gun control activists like Shannon Watts, the increasing number of legally carried guns on Chicago streets should be creating more homicides. Instead, we’re seeing the number of murders decline as more citizens legally arm themselves for protection.

More guns doesn’t lead to more crime, despite the claims of anti-gun politicians and gun control groups. Chicago still has plenty of work to do to lower its crime rate, but the city can see a continued reduction in shootings and homicides, as long as the focus is on the drug- and gang-related violence, and not the city’s law-abiding gun owners a.k.a. armed good guys.

Woman Uses Gun To Defend Herself After Being Run Off Alabama Interstate

A woman in Limestone County, Alabama is safe today, thanks to the fact that she had a gun for self-defense. According to the Limestone County sheriff’s office, the woman was was forced to flee a home on Sunday after 34-year old Charles Baker got physical with her during an argument.

Who knows how this would have ended up had the woman who was attacked been unarmed.

As the woman sped away, Baker took off after her, and eventually caught up to her on Interstate 65, where he proceeded to run her off the road.

Court documents say Baker followed the victim up Interstate 65 North and ran her vehicle off the road while chasing her. It also says the incident could have caused injury or damage to the victim or other drivers.

Baker tried to stop her and get in front of her vehicle. That’s when deputies say she pulled her pistol on him. He fled the scene after seeing her gun.

Deputies later found Baker at the intersection of Thatch and Clem Roads. They searched his vehicle and found meth in his car.

Believe it or not, despite the physical threat to the woman and the meth found in Baker’s vehicle, according to local press accounts, Baker’s bail has been set at a pretty low $2,500. He’s due back in court on February 13th, but chances are he’ll be back out on the streets long before then.

Who knows how this would have ended up had the woman who was attacked been unarmed. Will Shannon Watts and other gun control activists claim that this victim would have been better off defenseless? If they bothered to comment on this self-defense story, probably so. After all, they’ve spend several days now telling us that the average American just isn’t equipped with the knowledge and training to act in self-defense.

The truth is, this woman never even had to pull the trigger, but the presence of that gun in her hand was enough to stop her attacker. I don’t know if the victim here is an NRA-certified firearms instructor or a reserve deputy, but I’d be surprised if that were the case. Most likely, she’s just an average gun owner, and she was perfectly capable of defending her life thanks to the gun she possessed.

This story won’t get nearly the amount of media coverage that the shooting at the West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas has received, but defensive gun uses like this where no shots are fired are pretty commonplace. In fact, according to researcher Alan Korwin, the vast majority of defensive uses of a firearm do not involve the trigger being pulled. As was the case in Limestone County, Alabama, a victim who simply has a firearm is enough to prevent a crime from escalating any further.

Practice your DRAW STROKE and practice the SHOT.

NO perp should have walked from this scene.
