Every November there are 2 things are people’s minds. Christmas and Thanksgiving. Time to spend with family and friends. A time for traditions. And for some people, Black Friday Sales.
I have never been big on Black Friday Sales. Some places start them on Thanksgiving Day. Those people now have to go to work instead of spending time with family and friends. I can, however, see the benefits of early Christmas shopping. Here are my recommendations for gifts for the shooters you know.
Targets
Something that all shooters need is something to shoot at. I prefer to shoot at metal targets. Some people like to shoot on paper. Everyone needs something to shoot at.
The advantages of paper targets are simple. They are great for zeroing and checking zero. If you are a reloader, like me, you can test your loads. It is much easier to see where you are hitting. They even make Shoot-N-See targets that make it even easier. Paper targets are also light and easy to transport. Every range I have been to allows paper targets.Metal targets have some nice perks too. You typically don’t have to change metal targets. Because they make noise, you get instant gratification. You can get various sizes to add a challenge. Currently, my smallest metal target is 4 inches. I know that not all ranges allow them, and they are a bit more cumbersome to transport. To me, the biggest advantage is that you can take it out somewhere and set up several targets for family friends. Just make a day out of shooting.
Cases
As my Grandpa used to say, “What do you get for the person who has everything? Something to put it in.” Gun cases, bags, or socks are always nice to have for transporting firearms. I know that I have multiple of those. If they travel a lot every year for hunting, then it is always good to have a nice hard case. If they just go to the range a lot, a soft case or sock is quick and easy. They also take up less space. Should you decide to go this route, make sure you check if they have a lot of cases already.Paraphernalia
A lot of people don’t need or want to store targets or more cases. That doesn’t mean those people don’t want accessories. Some people will enjoy books about firearms. There are tons of books that talk about the history of the firearm. Wars those weapons were used in and who used them. There are even books that are just about the cartridges. If the shooter you know is a history buff, a book is a great gift.Apparel can also be a good gift. In fact, in Icelandic tradition getting clothing is a must. If you don’t receive clothing, you can be eaten by the Jólakötturinn or Yule Cat. So why not get them a shirt or a hat? It could save their life.
