Springfield Goes Small With a New 1911

The 1911 is a proven platform and top performer in any caliber or size. Springfield’s 911 pistol would make a great carry gun, and excels as back-up gun (BUG). The 911 has all the features and familiarity of the 1911 with a few upgrades and a smaller size.

It’s like Springfield states in its introduction, “When the police are minutes away, but the threat is only seconds out.. 9-1-1. When you have to be your own first responder.”

Managing the Double-Action First-Shot Pistol

My experience with double-action first-shot, self-loading pistols dates back to the 1970s. I began my police duties carrying a Colt Commander .45 but moving to a larger agency, I carried a Smith and Wesson Combat Magnum revolver. Each had much merit with either offering good hit probability. The .45 offered better control while the wound ballistics of the Federal 125-grain .357 Magnum was excellent. Pelosi Lies About National Reciprocity

As the saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Of course, such a record would be an improvement for the Washington Post’s gun coverage. However, over the past year, the Post’s Fact Checker column has provided readers with a handful of well-researched pieces challenging the ridiculous assertions made by some gun control advocates. This week brought their latest, where writer Glenn Kessler admonished House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) for her recent comments on H.R. 38, or the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017. 6 of the Dumbest Arguments by Anti-gun Dissenters

The Supreme Court of the State of Delaware upheld the right to keep and bear arms provision of the Delaware State Constitution in early December 2017. The provision was originally enacted in 1987 after passing through two separately elected legislatures. This is good news and certainly in line with Constitution. However, it is the ludicrous claims made in the dissention that is the most egregious part. [Read more…] about 6 of the Dumbest Arguments by Anti-gun Dissenters

Combat Shotguns: Ready for a Riot or Home Defense

Odds are, you’ll never be in a riot or have need to try and break one up. However, the apply named riot shotgun, also called a combat shotgun, is arguably the the best all-around personal defense firearm in the world. With its shorter, 18-inch barrel and high capacity magazine, knock-down power and intimidation factor, the riot gun offers the edge in close-quarters personal defense that cannot be overstated. H.R. 38: Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 Passes in the House

Good news for gun owners and self-defense enthusiasts alike! This week, the House easily passed, H.R. 38: Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, an expansion of the right to carry a concealed firearm across state lines. The basic premise being, if you are licensed to carry in one state, your license would cover you in all states—much the same as a driver’s license. Judiciary Committee Approves Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017

The language of the Second Amendment is pretty clear: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” The only ones who seem unable to comprehend that simple sentence is the gun control crowd. Fortunately, for the rest of us the House Judiciary Committee just approved the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, a measure that, if approved by Congress, would then be signed into law by the president. Doing so would do away with state prohibitions on the carrying of concealed guns for self-defense, as well as a host of other Second Amendment infringements. Ruger Precision Rifle RPR .308, .243, 6.5 Creedmoor Review

When the initial reviews of the Ruger Precision Rifle came out, I was skeptical about the gloriously rosey review noting groundbreaking features… it just screamed to me that someone was all too happy to whip out knee pads and a bib to be one of the first to review Ruger’s latest, so I waited a until now for my full review. Initially, my eyes rolled hard with the thought that Ruger has just dropped its standard, Mauser-influenced action into a billet chassis, and that did not sound particularly groundbreaking—I was of course wrong completely on that point. Steinle Jury: It Was the Gun’s Fault

I’ve gotten used to the media and the anti-gun crowd blaming the firearm every time there is a high-profile shooting event. After all, they already have an agenda to vilify guns—regardless the facts in my opinion. However, I about fell out of my chair when the jury in San Francisco found Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, a.k.a. Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, not guilty on the counts of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and involuntary manslaughter in the death of Kate Steinle but guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Allow me to explain. [Read more…] about Steinle Jury: It Was the Gun’s Fault

How to Give a Firearm as a Gift — Legally

The holidays are just around the corner. As hunters, shooters, collectors, or just plain plinkers, it’s a natural instinct to want to share our enjoyment of firearms with others. What better way to do that than to make a gift of a firearm to a family member, close friend or relative? [Read more…] about How to Give a Firearm as a Gift — Legally

10mm Automatic or Magnum Revolver?

As a young man, my constant companion on duty and when hunting and hiking, was not a 10mm, but instead a Smith and Wesson Combat Magnum. While the four-inch barrel .357 Magnum is a great all around handgun for personal defense, I moved to the 1911 .45, which I found ideal and managed to carry on duty. With the 1911, safety, reliability, and hit probability are all that could be desired. Occasionally, I wondered if it was practical to combine the features of the 1911 with a hard-hitting 10mm cartridge to make a suitable outdoor 1911.
