Armed Good Samaritan Stops Rape

For years, Josh Williams has run at least once a week along Austin’s busy Hike-and-Bike trail. He always carries his cell phone and a flashlight. He also carries a gun in a belly band holster when he runs. On the morning of Sept. 15, he heard a woman’s screams in the distance. Hear the full account of what happened from the armed good samaritan. [Read more…] about Armed Good Samaritan Stops Rape

Women Carrying Guns Is Not Practical?

On February 24, CNN law enforcement analyst Tom Fuentes asked the question, “For a woman, where are you going to hide that gun during the day?” He continued with another question, “If you wear a dress, if you wear a skirt, are you going to have to wear a jacket everyday with a belt and a holster the way a detective on duty would do?” Was he actually that ignorant about women carrying guns? Tueller Drill: The 21-Foot Rule

The 21-foot rule is thrown around quite a bit, and to be honest, CCW trainers and law enforcement have been rather careless about its use as well—at a minimum, they have not properly explained it to most. Through the use of the word “rule” it makes it sound like a line in the sand or you are magically safe at 22 feet. This has lead to unfortunate conclusions in the world of self-defense and courtroom alike. [Read more…] about Tueller Drill: The 21-Foot Rule

Responsible Gun Storage

Responsible gun storage is a key element to gun ownership. Far too often have we read about a firearm accident due to careless firearm storage. Likewise, as cool as a firearm hidden in a piece of furniture or flag frame may seem, criminals will find them. Have you ever looked up the stats of crimes committed with stolen firearms and wondered how the criminals are able to steal so many guns? [Read more…] about Responsible Gun Storage

3 Things You Should Know About Close Quarters Battle

All skills are an amalgamation of basic skills and things we have learned. The problem is that many folks do not study, and if they do, they study things that are of no utility in personal defense. Most shooters engage in superficial dabbling. They may try the inside the waistband holster and the appendix draw briefly, and sometimes try the crossdraw, but not thoroughly examine any of them, which means they have failed to prepare for a close quarters battle (CQB). Video: Active Shooter — Run, Hide, Fight

One of the most serious, and  frankly scary, situations you can find yourself in is the active shooter. It has happened and could happen anywhere across the nation—in a shopping mall, at holiday party, night club, restaurant, shopping center, or perhaps most tragically, a school.

This video will help you gain insight as to your rights and options should you find yourself in one of these tragic situations. [Read more…] about Video: Active Shooter — Run, Hide, Fight

Combat Shotguns: Ready for a Riot or Home Defense

Odds are, you’ll never be in a riot or have need to try and break one up. However, the apply named riot shotgun, also called a combat shotgun, is arguably the the best all-around personal defense firearm in the world. With its shorter, 18-inch barrel and high capacity magazine, knock-down power and intimidation factor, the riot gun offers the edge in close-quarters personal defense that cannot be overstated. 10mm Automatic or Magnum Revolver?

As a young man, my constant companion on duty and when hunting and hiking, was not a 10mm, but instead a Smith and Wesson Combat Magnum. While the four-inch barrel .357 Magnum is a great all around handgun for personal defense, I moved to the 1911 .45, which I found ideal and managed to carry on duty. With the 1911, safety, reliability, and hit probability are all that could be desired. Occasionally, I wondered if it was practical to combine the features of the 1911 with a hard-hitting 10mm cartridge to make a suitable outdoor 1911. Concealed Carry: Choosing Your First Handgun

Which model should I buy for my first concealed carry handgun? The question is common enough, and for good reason. Whichever route you go, here are six tips to consider when choosing your first handgun for concealed carry. [Read more…] about Concealed Carry: Choosing Your First Handgun

Concealed Carry: Can You Get Involved, Legally?

There is no shortage of concealed-carry chest thumping going on when people start talking about how heroic they would be in an active shooter situation or during some type of robbery. And, may I add, bless the patriots who are willing to answer the call, by deciding to carry concealed. However, having the ability and willingness is different than the responsibility or understanding of knowing whether or not getting involved is actually going to help the situation or potentially cause confusion that could get innocent people killed, including you.
