Review: Glock G29 10mm — Reliability Meets Maximum Power

Glocks are always a favorite among shooters. The design is simple, standardized across the various models, and at the end of the day, you can count on a Glock to go bang! when you pull the trigger. However, sometimes, reliability is not enough. At times, reliability needs to be paired with stopping power. When it is a marriage of stopping power and reliability that you are seeking, the Glock G29 10mm is your answer.

Beretta M9 — From Military Service to Classic

When the United States Army adopted the Beretta M9, it was quite a surprise to many of us. The apple cart wasn’t upset; it was wrecked. The Beretta replaced the long-serving 1911A1 .45-caliber pistol. While there are many fans of the 1911, there are also many detractors and some who felt the pistol was long overdue for replacement. 20 Tips for Preseason Turkeys

Wild turkeys are almost as fickle as the springtime weather we experience while hunting them. These and other factors often combine to limit opportunities for turkey-hunting success to just a few hours of hunting per season. Solid preparation is imperative. Serious turkey hunters are prepared to deal with any situation and leave nothing to chance. Are you up to the challenge? [Read more…] about 20 Tips for Preseason Turkeys

Do Anti-gun Sales Restrictions Violate Anti-Discrimination Laws?

Many of us have been thinking it, but an Oregon newspaper recently raised an interesting question. Are retailers that decide to arbitrarily raise the age for gun sales violating anti-discrimination laws? According to Willamette Week, a Portland-based alternative weekly, there are 17 Fred Meyer stores in the Beaver State that sell firearms. Bi-Mart also announced the change in policy. However, a retired Lane County judge, Jim Hargreaves, says the decision by retailers might slam head on into Oregon state law. Oregon law states that any person over 18 can purchase a gun, and that the anti-discrimination law says anybody of legal age can’t be denied something available to others. Review: Holosun Paralow HS503C Red Dot Sight

We are very lucky as shooters given the proliferation good and affordable red dot sights. The technology and quality is on the rise while prices have fell into a reasonable price range. At one time, a quality red dot sight, that would take the abuse of tactical training, cost about the same price as the rifle itself. Today, we have brands such as Holosun, which are offering quite a few technical innovations. [Read more…] about Review: Holosun Paralow HS503C Red Dot Sight

Turkey Scouting 101 — Making Success

To hunt turkeys, you have two options. First, you can hope to get lucky. Second, you can be smarter than the turkey. Anyone who has ever hunted turkeys knows option 1 is easier, but with a little effort, and a mastery of the basics of Turkey Scouting 101, you can bring Tommy Three Toes home for dinner. Dick’s Sporting Goods: A Dangerous Decision for Our Second Amendment Rights?

Having been in the Outdoors industry for two decades, I have had a bird’s eye view of the ebb and flow of Second Amendment support. Most gun owners I’ve met believe in personal freedoms. When that comes to corporations however, the decision to suspend or halt sales of certain items has often earned the ire of the gun owning community. Each business must weigh its corporate social responsibility to the community to potential repercussions from the consumer. Formal boycotts, social media rants, and the choice to take consumer dollars elsewhere as a form of silent protest are the norm, and that is simply due to a business’ decision of whether to carry a certain product or line of products. Dick’s Sporting Goods is one of the latest examples, but Dick’s has far surpassed a simple decision to not sell particular items. Women Carrying Guns Is Not Practical?

On February 24, CNN law enforcement analyst Tom Fuentes asked the question, “For a woman, where are you going to hide that gun during the day?” He continued with another question, “If you wear a dress, if you wear a skirt, are you going to have to wear a jacket everyday with a belt and a holster the way a detective on duty would do?” Was he actually that ignorant about women carrying guns? 4 Steps to Break in a New Pistol

Imagine being the victim of a burglary five times in a six-year period. Not only would you be losing personal valuables during each burglary, undoubtedly the ongoing victimization would take a toll on your life in other ways. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to a man named Harvey Lembo. Harvey is a retired lobster fisherman who lives in a small apartment in Maine. He takes multiple medications and uses a motorized wheelchair to get around. [Read more…] about 4 Steps to Break in a New Pistol

Dallas Mayor Wants the NRA to Move Convention

In response to the tragedy in Florida, the pro tem Mayor of Dallas has one message for the NRA: Take your convention elsewhere. “I am saying to the NRA, reconsider coming to Dallas,” Dwaine Caraway, told reporters Monday. “There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas.” In truth, wherever the NRA holds its convention, anti-gun forces either marshal local activists or bus them to create a demonstration and make it look as if they have a larger grass roots presence than they really do. Trump Backs Federal Gun Background Checks

I was writing a post, wondering if Trump would throw gun owners under the bus, then a news bulletin popped up to say he already had. He has instructed Attorney General Jeff Sessions to ban bump stocks and trigger devices. So, the question we need to ask is simple, “Is this a delaying action to keep the gun grabbers at bay, or the start of a total sell out?” I am sure the title of this story alone may be enough to raise gun owners’ hackles. Is President Trump going to make a deal favoring gun control? What about his promises to never go against the Second Amendment during the election and NRA convention? Tueller Drill: The 21-Foot Rule

The 21-foot rule is thrown around quite a bit, and to be honest, CCW trainers and law enforcement have been rather careless about its use as well—at a minimum, they have not properly explained it to most. Through the use of the word “rule” it makes it sound like a line in the sand or you are magically safe at 22 feet. This has lead to unfortunate conclusions in the world of self-defense and courtroom alike. [Read more…] about Tueller Drill: The 21-Foot Rule

Preventing Theft of a Firearm in Your Vehicle

Preventing theft is, and should be, a paramount concern of every gun owner. [Read more…] about Preventing Theft of a Firearm in Your Vehicle

Iowa Seeks Constitutional Amendment for Gun Rights

Iowa is one of only six states that does not have a state constitutional provision that protects the right to keep and bear arms in some way. The other five states without such a provision are California, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, and New York. The two outliers on that list are Iowa and Minnesota. Both states have strong Second Amendment activist organizations. [Read more…] about Iowa Seeks Constitutional Amendment for Gun Rights

Ride the Federal 224 Valkyrie!

The Federal 224 Valkyrie! Traditionalists will howl: “Another unnecessary creation! It doesn’t do anything a half-dozen rifle cartridges don’t already do.” They are wrong! What the Valkyrie does is keep a .224 bullet stabilized and supersonic to 1,000 yards or slightly beyond. If I’m not mistaken, no other commercially loaded .224 centerfire currently does that. This makes the 224 Valkyrie a potential, long-range, Precision Rifle Series round that promises better than average barrel life and virtually no recoil compared to the 6.5 Creedmoor. Handload it and the small powder capacity of the Valkyrie case (roughly 24 grains of powder) combined with smaller bullets should keep costs down, too.
