Choosing the Right Holster

When you choose a handgun and holster, you are investing in a concealed carry system. The holster is an important part of the system, at least as important as the handgun itself. I have seen too many unserviceable, sorry excuses for holsters in my classes, and the hell of it is many carry such holsters to defend their life! [Read more…] about Choosing the Right Holster

Gun Test: Zastava .22 Rifle

A good quality, .22 caliber bolt-action rifle, such as the Zastava MP22, is among the best firearms available for all shooters and those who love the outdoors. It is suitable for training, recreational shooting, small game hunting, and general outdoors duty. The .22 caliber rifle is easy to use well, and practice is cheap. There is no harsh recoil to intimidate young shooters. [Read more…] about Gun Test: Zastava .22 Rifle

Women Top New Concealed Carry Licensees

For gun control advocates, any discussion of concealed carry reciprocity is already over. If they have anything to say about it, you will have no such right. Across America, meanwhile, a growing segment of gun owners aren’t talking about gun rights. They’re acting. [Read more…] about Women Top New Concealed Carry Licensees

Illinois — Defeating Gun Control

It is not too often we get a chance to report on a state known for opposing the Second Amendment for doing the right thing and defeating gun control legislation. Recently, Illinois law makers passed a bill that would have all but resulted in the outright ruination of every gun retailer in the state. The State was attempting to, in essence, create its own FFL license complete with the fees and provisions it would set. [Read more…] about Illinois — Defeating Gun Control

Diamond and Silk — NRA 2018

I am sure Diamond and Silk will be a surprise to many of you. However, at the opening of the NRA Convention’s Leadership Forum, when Chris Cox was announcing the roll call speakers, perhaps the only one to get a bigger round of applause and cheers than Diamond and Silk was President Trump. Watch the video to see why. [Read more…] about Diamond and Silk — NRA 2018

NRA’s LaPierre Rips ‘Elite Media’

National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre delivered a fiery — some might call it pure boilerplate — speech to a crowded members’ meeting Saturday focusing on one of the organization’s favorite targets: the media. [Read more…] about NRA’s LaPierre Rips ‘Elite Media’

Teachers: Politics Over Children’s Safety?

Recently, The Gallup Panel focused on an issue that is a hot political issue for many: gun control and teachers. On Valentine’s Day, 2018, a former Parkland student killed 17 people and wounded 17 others at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Since that day, gun control has dominated the national news cycle, with media outlets releasing daily articles, reports and broadcasts on the topic. NSSF Gives Dick’s the Boot

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF®) Board of Governors unanimously voted to expel Dick’s Sporting Goods from their organization. The Board cited Dick’s for “…conduct detrimental to the best interests of the Foundation” in a press release today. The NSSF is the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting, and shooting sports industries. The decision by the board was unanimous and was based upon the fact that Dick’s recently hired lobbyists pushing for gun control measures, though the specific measures are not stated. Range Review: SIG P365 — The Smashing Little 9mm

I don’t mind carrying a small handgun that is efficient for its size. Some handguns are a wonder of downsizing. However, small 9mm handguns have a set of problems that isn’t easily addressed. This includes lower magazine capacity and lower hit probability. A short sight radius doesn’t make for good accuracy, but the SIG P365… [Read more…] about Range Review: SIG P365 — The Smashing Little 9mm

Range Test: SCCY CPX-2 — An Affordable 9mm

A few years ago, when SCCY introduced the CPX 9mm handgun, I found the piece to be reliable, well designed, and offered at a fair price. The early versions with a frame-mounted safety sometimes suffered from the safety moving to the on position during firing though. While SCCY has corrected the issue, and the shooters thumb contacting the safety may have caused some of it, I recommend the version without a safety. A pistol with a 10-pound double action only trigger may be carried without a manual safety. [Read more…] about Range Test: SCCY CPX-2 — An Affordable 9mm

Where Have All the Gun Emojis Gone?

It should come as no surprise that the technocrats are taking away your guns. No – they have not started looting your gun safe yet; however, they are replacing handguns in your catalog of emojis with a toy gun or squirt gun. On April 25, 2018, Google released an update to its emojis, which depicted a squirt gun in lieu of a pistol. This is a change from the company’s previous emojis, which have always resembled real firearms. On the same day, Microsoft jumped on the bandwagon and announced that it would change its handgun emoji to resemble a water gun in its upcoming release of Windows 10. NPR: Danger of Firearm Ownership Outweighs Self-Defense Right

NPR, although it claims to be straight down the middle and apolitical, bias certainly rears its ugly head now and then. By admission, I understand the need to cause a little controversy to stimulate one, or both, sides of a political position to further the debate. However, when NPR recently challenged gun ownership for self-defense without a counterpoint to defend our position, it raised my hackles. Comrade Handgun — The Tokarev and Vepr Combination

I always prefer rifle/handgun combinations, and the obvious choice for the Vepr is the Tokarev or Makarov. The funny thing is, the more I thought about the T-33, the more it—or at least the cartridge—began to make sense. The 7.62x25mm is a heckuva flat-shooting round. The little 86-grain bullet travels at some 1,450 fps, and I find it most fun to shoot at long range. It is no problem to hit (or at least frighten terribly) clay pigeons at 50 yards and more. I was reminded of the time I was quail hunting with a shotgun and was dogged by a wily coyote just out of shotgun reach. Since then, I’ve always taken along a 40-ounce 1911 in either 10mm or .38 Super. [Read more…] about Comrade Handgun — The Tokarev and Vepr Combination

CZ 455 Varmint and Trainer .22 LR Rifles

I fired my first .22 caliber rifle at perhaps 10 years old. I have been through many rifles always upgrading the .22. The .22 offers excellent economy and is the place where we should all start. The .22 is also the place we should go when we are having marksmanship issues. Today, one of my favorite .22 LR offerings is the CZ 455 series.
