SHOT Show — New Products 2019

The SHOT Show (Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade) in January of each year not only signals the beginning of a new year, but a whole round of product launches to fill our dreams, wish lists, and for a lucky few, gear closets and gun safes. Firearm sales have been rather lackluster as of late, so it is not much of a surprise that manufacturers focused more on expanding existing lines to include new colors and calibers more than completely new introductions. However, that is not to say the industry did not put out some new must-have models! On the other hand, the optics and accessories categories are teeming with new offerings to give your old gear a new look.
We scoured the SHOT Show floor for some of the best new offerings and will bring you a new list each day, so stay tuned. [Read more…] about SHOT Show — New Products 2019

Illinois: Gov. Pritzker Signs Firearm Registration & Dealer Licensing Bill

Within 48 hours of being sworn in, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 337 into law. The bill was passed by the previous legislature, but Republican Governor Bruce Rauner refused to sign it into law. Senate President John Cullerton previously made the unprecedented move of placing a procedural hold on the bill in order to avoid the possibility of a veto under the previous Governor, Bruce Rauner, and then removed the hold to send the bill to a newly inaugurated governor. Cullerton’s political tricks means SB 337 will now establish a firearm registry and likely shut down local gun stores in Illinois with government red tape. [Read more…] about Illinois: Gov. The Range Bag

One of the inevitabilities, and greatest aspects of our sport, is the accumulation of gear and accessories. Somewhere, deep down inside each of us, is a little devilish voice convincing us to get more stuff. I’ll be the first to admit it; I indulge that little voice often and without apology. Mainly because I have put in the time to select the right range bag and devised a system for packing it. [Read more…] about The Range Bag

Boston Mayor Wants Statewide Mandate That Doctors Must Ask If Patients Own Guns

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh wants to mandate that doctors teach patients about gun safety. It appears to be another Orwellian definition. Gun safety in these circumstances seems to mean getting rid of guns. There is no mention of using known gun safety experts who have been working on the subject for decades. From bizjournals.com: [Read more…] about Boston Mayor Wants Statewide Mandate That Doctors Must Ask If Patients Own Guns

‘100 Days of Gun Control’ Begins at State, Federal Levels

Liberal Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo will push for more gun control in New York, a state that already has among the strictest gun laws in the nation; Democrats are pushing additional gun restrictions in Washington State, and on Capitol Hill, Democrats in Congress also want to clamp down on Second Amendment rights, and it will all happen in the next 100 days. Choosing a Trunk or Truck Gun

Lots of people in the gun community have a trunk or truck gun. For most people, it is some type of beater rifle or shotgun. The theory is, “Why beat up a good gun by bouncing it around in the trunk?” Just throw a beater in there and forget about it. I am not a fan of that technique. Armed Good Guys: Mocked for ‘Crying Like a Little Baby’

News stories of civilian self-defense seldom receive adequate media coverage. After all, armed good guys stopping violent felons does not make headlines like the lives of innocents being taken. Bias and agendas play their part, but the media does not cover an event that did not happen, such as a case where a good guy stopped a violent event before it resulted in the loss of innocent life. However, these are exactly the type of stories we need to highlight to educate non gun owners before they head to the voting booth. Gun Test: Walther Creed 9mm Pistol

The face of Walther is far more than just a legacy of James Bond’s Walther PPK but a company offering real innovation. The company has leapt into cutting edge designs, which some gun buyers get right away, such as the fabulous little PPS M1 and M2. Other designs are a bit tougher to understand for the seasoned shooter… that is until they handle them. [Read more…] about Gun Test: Walther Creed 9mm Pistol

Dem. Senators Introduce Assault Weapons Ban of 2019

I have a great many friends who are democrats and staunch supporters of the Second Amendment, but that is on a personal level. That being said, when it comes to politicians, Democrat seems to be synonymous with gun control and the assault on our Second Amendment rights. Today, the Democrats demonstrated that unity and showed their desire to strip us of our Second Amendment rights. You don’t have to take my word for it. Here is the the press release put out by longtime gun control advocate Sen. Dianne Feinstein.

Virginia Governor Gearing up for Massive Gun Control Legislation

Let me know if you have heard this one. A Governor walks up to the microphone and announces a comprehensive package of anti Second Amendment legislation that he claims will prevent gun violence and improve the safety of the state’s citizens and communities. That’s exactly what happened in Richmond Virginia this week—and it is as absurd in 2019 as it was ever other there the antis proposed going down this path. The Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC)

The concept of the pistol caliber carbine, or PCC, is nothing new. In fact, early muzzleloading pistols often used the same caliber as their longer smoke-pole counterparts. The lever-action rifles used on the range by cowboys often chambered the same cartridge as their sixguns. Being able to share ammunition between the guns simply made logistical sense, and at the time, the power factor between the pistol and long gun was negligible. Review: Smith and Wesson M&P10 .308 Rifle

For some of us, the watchword is ‘sometimes you need a .308.’ The .223/5.56mm platform is a wonderful close-quarters combat system and may be accurate at extended range. However, the punch needed for some chores just isn’t there. There are shooters who hunt medium-sized game, use a rifle for defense, or like long-range shooting and are limited by the .223 Remington cartridge. Most of us feel that jumping over the 6.8 or the .300 Blackout straight to a .308, such as the S&W M&P10, makes sense. [Read more…] about Review: Smith and Wesson M&P10 .308 Rifle

NSSF: Survey Shows Disconnect Between Rhetoric and Reality

Headlines over the past few weeks have centered around the top priority for incoming Democratic House leadership: gun control. Reading these, one would think that members of the new House majority were elected with a mandate to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to purchase and possess firearms. A new Gallup survey shows that the Democrats’ rhetoric is far from reality. [Read more…] about NSSF: Survey Shows Disconnect Between Rhetoric and Reality

New Year’s Shutdown – No Not the Government, Its Instagram

2019 is already shaping up to be the year of the shutdown. You have political parties at odds on budgets as they discuss (but take no action on) border security. However, this is not the shutdown that most gun owners should be most concerned about. No, the shutdown that gun owners and advocates should be most concerned about is the wave of shutdowns on social media that continues to attack the firearms industry, its advocates, personalities and educators. It’s old news that Facebook and Instagram have been moving in this direction by targeting those they disagree with or with whom its users disagree with and report as violators of their ever-expanding rules and policies. What is new is that they are getting bolder and bolder by targeting larger firearm profiles. The most recent victims are the popular “slav squad” over at Polenar Tactical (don’t worry you can still follow Manca @mancameow – for now) and firearms company Definitive Arms.

Top AR Pistol Braces

AR pistols have been around for a long time. They have been great range toys and a fun way to turn money into noise, if you didn’t mind the spray and pray method of shooting. Let’s face it, not all of us have or can use both hands well. Some of us use a cane, have had a stroke or tangled with an IED to the detriment of our hands. [Read more…] about Top AR Pistol Braces

Python: Colt’s Best Revolver

At times, the gun companies listen—especially when bread and butter and prestige are on the line. Otherwise, the competition will come in and steal that bread and butter. Kimber saw the need for a factory 1911 with good features and shook up the market. Everyone else had to catch up. American companies did not listen to the police call for double action only automatics. They had the cop market sewn up for 100 years. Glock came along and dominated that market.
