Illinois: Gov. Pritzker Signs Firearm Registration & Dealer Licensing Bill
Within 48 hours of being sworn in, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Senate Bill 337 into law. The bill was passed by the previous legislature, but Republican Governor Bruce Rauner refused to sign it into law. Senate President John Cullerton previously made the unprecedented move of placing a procedural hold on the bill in order to avoid the possibility of a veto under the previous Governor, Bruce Rauner, and then removed the hold to send the bill to a newly inaugurated governor. Cullerton’s political tricks means SB 337 will now establish a firearm registry and likely shut down local gun stores in Illinois with government red tape. [Read more…] about Illinois: Gov. Boston Mayor Wants Statewide Mandate That Doctors Must Ask If Patients Own Guns
Boston Mayor Martin Walsh wants to mandate that doctors teach patients about gun safety. It appears to be another Orwellian definition. Gun safety in these circumstances seems to mean getting rid of guns. There is no mention of using known gun safety experts who have been working on the subject for decades. ‘100 Days of Gun Control’ Begins at State, Federal Levels
Liberal Democrat Gov. Andrew Cuomo will push for more gun control in New York, a state that already has among the strictest gun laws in the nation; Democrats are pushing additional gun restrictions in Washington State, and on Capitol Hill, Democrats in Congress also want to clamp down on Second Amendment rights, and it will all happen in the next 100 days. Virginia Governor Gearing up for Massive Gun Control Legislation
Let me know if you have heard this one. A Governor walks up to the microphone and announces a comprehensive package of anti Second Amendment legislation that he claims will prevent gun violence and improve the safety of the state’s citizens and communities. That’s exactly what happened in Richmond Virginia this week—and it is as absurd in 2019 as it was ever other there the antis proposed going down this path. NSSF: Survey Shows Disconnect Between Rhetoric and Reality
Headlines over the past few weeks have centered around the top priority for incoming Democratic House leadership: gun control. Reading these, one would think that members of the new House majority were elected with a mandate to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to purchase and possess firearms. A new Gallup survey shows that the Democrats’ rhetoric is far from reality. [Read more…] about NSSF: Survey Shows Disconnect Between Rhetoric and Reality

A Tough Year for Gun Owners, Another Looms on Horizon
America’s gun owners may be particularly eager to celebrate the end of 2018 next Monday night, because for Second Amendment activists, it has been a tough year, and with Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi preparing to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, the next 12 months will likely be rough as well. Johns Hopkins: California’s Background Check Law Had No Impact on Gun Deaths
A new academic study has found that, once again, gun laws are not having their desired effect. A joint study conducted by researchers at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the University of California at Davis Violence Prevention Research Program, found that California’s much-touted mandated background checks had no impact on gun deaths, and researchers are puzzled as to why. DOJ Ruling: Bump Stocks are Machine Guns
Bump stocks have been on the hit list for some time now. Not because they are intrinsically dangerous in the hands of hundreds of thousands of gun owners, but because one miscreant, a murderer, decided to use one in a horrific crime. Politicians and anti gunners, as usual, have decided to blame the implement and not the criminal. As a result, under the direction of President trump, the Department of Justice has reclassified bump stocks as machine guns. The ruling becomes official when it is placed on the Federal Register, likely this Friday, December 21, 2018. At that time, it will kick off a 90-day clock to either destroy or surrender your scapegoat bump stocks. [Read more…] about DOJ Ruling: Bump Stocks are Machine Guns

Study: No Relationship Between CCW, Homicide, and Violent Crime
A new study of violent crime and concealed carry law found no correlation between the two. The study compared homicide and violent crime rates, at the state level, due to changes in concealed carry laws over a 30-year period—from 1986 to 2015. During this period, there were significant changes to the laws regulating the carry of concealed firearms. From the study:

Why Penalize All Gun Owners for Things They Didn’t Do?
With the Washington Post on Wednesday essentially singing the praises of the anti-Second Amendment group Everytown for Gun Safety, perhaps the time has come to ask the billionaire-backed gun prohibition lobby a couple of important questions. Why are you so determined to penalize the nation’s 100-million-plus law-abiding gun owners for crimes committed by a minority of miscreants, and suicides committed by self-destructive individuals whose acts of desperation are hardly reflective the firearms fraternity in general? Anti-Gunners Sounding ‘Taps’ Over the NRA as Florida Battle Looms?
Buried in a Tuesday Politico story about the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) declining revenues, and possibly failing political influence, is a stunning acknowledgement that just might account for the organization’s ability to cheat the undertaker. WA Anti-Gunners Show How to Dismantle Preemption, Ban Semi-Autos
Second Amendment advocates from one coast to the other should be paying close attention to what is happening in Washington state, which has become a test tube for anti-gunners now laying the framework to dismantle state preemption statutes and ban semiautomatic firearms, and it can be traced to King County, where the Board of Health recently adopted a regulation in clear defiance of the state’s 35-year-old preemption law. Federal Judge Allows NRA v. Cuomo Lawsuit
New York Gov. Second Amendment Activists are Furious as I-1639 Passes in Washington
Gun control Initiative I-1639 passed handily in Washington State, leaving Second Amendment activists furious, aiming at least part of their wrath at lethargic gun owners who evidently did not vote, and planning their next moves, which could involve lots of time in court, and lots of money for attorneys. Gun Control — Where Were the Usual Actors?
A murderous rampage – there simply isn’t a better definition of what happened last week at Tree of Life Synagogue. The murderer, and that is a key and honest description—not the “shooter” as the media has tried to downplay him to—killed at least 11 worshipers and wounded six more, including four of the responding police officers intent on stopping the murderer. NSSF Releases Congressional Scorecard — Midterm Election
Republican or Democrat — that is all that is necessary for many voters to select the candidate. Others are single issue voters and support candidate based on their position on a particular issue. Personally, I would not put myself in either of these camps, but a candidate’s voting record on firearms plays a significant role as to who will get my vote in the next election. GCA ’68: A Half-Century of Gun Control
TIME magazine is noting that this week marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA ’68). Coincidently, the day also marked the 137th anniversary of a fatal shootout in Tombstone, Arizona Territory that many suggest was ignited by enforcement of a gun control ordinance—commonly known as the Gunfight at the OK Corral. UPDATED, 10-9 @ 12:45 P.M. — Monday’s debate between incumbent U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell and GOP challenger Susan Hutchison concluded with a few minutes on the gun issue, and their responses underscore the deep divide between the gun control philosophy of ever-increasing restrictions and common sense approaches that protect the rights of law-abiding gun owners, including women.
